Accessibility Compliance Overview
McMaster University websites are required by the provicial Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to be accessibility compliant effective Jan. 1, 2014.
What does accessibility mean?
It means that website content needs to be accessible to visitors who have visual, hearing and other disabilities. For example:
- Visually-impaired visitors should be able to navigate the website using the tab key instead of using a mouse and visual cues.
- All visual content such as photos have a corresponding text description.
- Content is structured with tags that help accessibility readers interpret content in an organized way.
