What Training Do I need to Take?

Minimum Training Required

Training requirements are provided by RMM 300 and its Appendix, the training Matrix. All newly hired personnel are automatically enrolled in the core mandatory training courses - with the exception of COVID2 training.

The minimum basic training required for everyone includes:

Ergonomics ERGON every 5 years
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act AODA once any date
Asbestos Awareness ASBEST every 5 years
Slips, Trips and Falls SLPTRP every 5 years
Violence and Harassment Prevention in the Workplace VHPW every 3 years
WHMIS 2015 WHMS15 every 5 years
If you work on campus - Fire Safety for Campus FIRETR every 3 years
If you work in a hospital - Hospital Fire/CodeFHSFSF annually
If you are a supervisor - Due DiligenceDUEDILevery 3 years
If you are a supervisor - Accident InvestigationACCINVevery 3 years

How Do I Access This Training?

Registration for this training is via Mosaic and completion of the training is via Avenue 2 Learn. To register for courses in Mosaic, navigate to Mosaic > Regulatory Training > Search By Course Name > leave the field blank and hit search > click 'available sessions' and follow the prompts.

Additional Training

If you work in a laboratory, facility services, hospitality services, security and parking or are a TA, check the matrix to see if you require additional training. Each of these additional training may also have a repeat frequency.

If you are an administrator who works in a clinical setting, please visit the Routine Practices page.

There are additional training modules, not specifically prescribed by the matrix or policy. You can view the entire list of available courses on Mosaic by navigating to Mosaic > Regulatory Training > Search By Course Name > leave the field blank and hit search > click 'available sessions' and follow the prompts.

Access Your Own Training Record

Download (Mosaic > Regulatory Training > Learning & Development > Session Time and Status) and clean up an excel version of your training record - VIDEO

Reminders to Complete Training

There is currently no feature in Mosaic to remind you to update your training. It is recommended that you put calendar reminders in your Outlook to help you stay up to date. Icon of a manager with an exclamation mark.

Training Platform and Records

Departments can assign a person to have Training Coordinator access in Mosaic by logging a UTS service ticket. This allows them to download a department-wide training record, which can be cleaned up and useful. Here is a VIDEO showing how to do this! Email fhsso@mcmaster.ca if you require help with this.

  • Log a Service Ticket
  • Sign in
  • Accounts and Access (left hand side)
  • Mosaic Access Request (form opens)
  • HR Access
  • Dept Training Coordinator
  • Select Add HR Related Access
  • Complete ticket.

Departmental Assessment Using Advanced Excel Features
