Work Area Orientation
- tour immediate work area(s), review security and access measures and introduce to key staff
- identify location of amenities, safety board and process to contact a JHSC member
- show posted copies of workplace inspections and forward to New Employees Site on FHSSO
- review expected dress code for laboratory safety and workplace hygiene
Health, Safety and Injury Management
- review the Incident/Injury Reporting and Investigation procedure
- review the McMaster Workplace Environmental Health and Safety Policy RMM100
- review applicable training prescribed in the Health Safety Training Program RMM300
- complete a job hazard analysis for the individual.
- identify the hazards present in the workplace
- review the local SOPs to be developed and followed based on the tasks to be completed
- review the working alone procedure for the area
- advise how to access Safety Data Sheets and use chemical storage and handling equipment
- review personal protective equipment for tasks to be completed
- review location and use of emergency equipment (eyewash, shower, fire extinguishers)
Emergency and First Aid Procedures
- review emergency contact numbers for location
- review emergency evacuation procedures and muster point for group
- review location of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and pull stations
- provide location of first aid kit and identify of first aider
- review emergency code responses if in a hospital
Follow Up After One Week
- confirm safety training has been completed in mosaic
- confirm workstation has been set up to meet the ergonomic needs of the worker
- answer any questions the worker may have about the space, procedures or tasks in the area
