Dr. Enas El Gouhary is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology.
Dr. El Gouhary earned a Bachelor of Medicine from Cairo University in Egypt and completed a one-year medical internship at Kasr El Ainy, Cairo Educational Hospitals. She joined the postgraduate pediatric residency program at McMaster University in 2006 and became a fellow of the RCPSC in Pediatrics in 2010. She subsequently joined the Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship program at the University of Toronto where she was exposed to new advances in resuscitation and gentle care of premature infants, and was trained in neonatal transport medicine and cardiac critical care. She successfully passed the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Examination in Neonatology in 2012.
In 2012, Dr. El Gouhary began working on her Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the U of T’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. This degree will enhance her research and will compliment her ability to supervise learners in the Department.
Dr. El Gouhary’s research interests focus on advances in neonatal resuscitation; ventilation in premature infants and minimizing lung injury; and teaching evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal. She is currently conducting a randomised crossover observational study focusing on the assessment of the electrical activity of the diaphragm with the use of nCPAP versus High Flow Nasal Cannula.
