All 31 respondent provided years of experience. The range is from 2 to 38 years. The mean is 15.74 years, with a standard deviation of 10.55 years.

Previous experience with Medical or Nursing students

28 of 31 respondents provided a response to this question. Of them,

    • 13 (41.9%) reported no experience
    • 6 (19.4%) reported interacting with them in hospital settings
    • 3 (9.7%) reported interacting with them in various community/educational settings
    • 2 (6.5%) reported interacting with students from other disciplines
    • 2 (6.5%) reported having friends/family in medical education
    • 2 (6.5%) reported interacting with medical and nursing students when they themselves were students

Expectations

20 of 31 respondents answered this question. 9 (45%) of those responding had no expectations, while 11 (55%) did have expectations. Expectations fell into two categories; expectations about the students, and expectations about the project.

Expectations about the student

    • I expect that the students take this opportunity seriously and respect the comments of the professionals they are job shadowing.
    • Student's professionalism and willingness to learn.

Expectations about the project

    • Expect to learn about medical training orientation.
    • I think this project is a great idea and I hope my participation in it enhances the knowledge of the students with whom I will work.
    • To help promote a working relationship between doctors and SLPs.
    • Would like to be involved in focus group afterwards.
