Dr. Fred Baxter is a clinical professor in the Department of Anesthesia at McMaster University. He has been a faculty member at McMaster University since 1987.

During this time, he has held many leadership positions both clinical and academic. He has been the Residency Program Director for the Critical Care Program and Anesthesia Residency Program, and Chief of Anesthesia at St Joseph’s Healthcare. His research interests include sepsis treatment and patient safety.

He has received numerous teaching awards at McMaster University. In 2015, he received the Canadian Anesthesia Society Award for Outstanding Clinical Practitioner. In 2016, the Division of Nephrology created the Dr. Fred Baxter Award for Excellence in Nephrology and Patient Care to honour his commitment to patient safety, advocacy and care.
