Temporary move of HS Library entrance

Published: September 29 , 2006

The third and final phase of the Health Sciences Library (HSL) renovation project will begin the week of October 2nd.

During this phase the HSL entrance, upper level and stairwell will be closed to library users until the renovation project is complete, as this phase will involve the entire upper level of the library, including building a café at the dramatic new entrance.

The renovations are projected to be finished in February 2007. Phase 2 of project is nearing completion now; this phase included the lower level of the library and the new two-storey Reading Pavilion.

During Phase 3 the temporary entrance to the library will located on the lower level, behind HSC rooms 1A4 and 1A5. There will be clear signage to direct library users to this temporary library entrance. As it will be necessary for library staff to vacate their offices on the upper level and occupy pubic space on the lower level during Phase 3, there will be very little seating available for library patrons.

Fortunately the extensive electronic collection will help to address this situation, as users will be able to access that collection from outside the library. The stacks containing the entire print collection are located on the lower level and will be accessible throughout Phase 3.

"The final outcome of the renovations will be wonderful," said Health Sciences Library Director Dorothy Fitzgerald. "We thank everyone for their patience throughout the project."
