The Department of Medicine’s Grand Rounds this week will feature Stephen Lewis, who is completing his term as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy to Africa for HIV/AIDS at the end of this month.

Grand Rounds will take place on Thursday at 8 a.m. in Room 1A1 of the Ewart Angus Centre. The topic is Global Health and AIDS, A Race Against Time. All are welcome to attend.

During his five-year term as envoy, Lewis has criss-crossed the continent of Africa and then travelled the world, advocating for those affected by this pandemic. In the course of his work he has also become an inspiration to many across Canada and around the world.

On Thursday he will touch upon the vast experience he has gained in his role as envoy, and encourage the Hamilton healthcare community to continue with their involvement with this issue.

The Faculty of Health Sciences' participation in the recent Give a Day to World AIDS initiative, which raised more than $300,000 nationally for the Stephen Lewis Foundation and Dignitas International, will be highlighted.

Earlier this year Lewis was named McMaster's Social Sciences Scholar-in-Residence.
