Two doctoral students in the Faculty of Health Sciences have been named Vanier Scholars.

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are Canada's most prestigious awards for doctoral students working in health sciences, natural sciences and engineering, and social sciences and humanities. Vanier Scholars receive $50,000 a year for up to three years of research.

Elizabeth Culp and Steven Liang are among four McMaster students recognized with the honour.

Culp, of biochemistry and biomedical sciences, is finding antibiotics targeting bacterial proteases, while Liang, of pathology and molecular medicine, is evaluating a new vaccine for chlamydia.

The other McMaster researchers recognized with the award were Rachel Weldrick, Health, Aging and Society, and Kaitlin Blanchard, English and Cultural Studies.
