Health sciences library director retires

After 24 years as Director of the Health Sciences Library, Dorothy Fitzgerald will be retiring on January 1st, 2008.

In making the announcement today, Susan Denburg, associate vice-president, academic for the Faculty of Health Sciences said: "Dorothy Fitzgerald has steered the library through many exciting changes, including the transition from print to electronic resources, the widespread use of information technologies, and most recently the complete physical transformation of the library. This recent renovation of the Health Sciences Library has resulted in a beautiful and welcoming space.

"We thank Dorothy for her many contributions and wish her all the best in the future."

Liz Bayley has been appointed Interim Director of the Health Sciences Library effective January 2nd, 2008.

Liz has been a librarian in the Health Sciences Library since 1986 and has had a number of roles over the years. She currently oversees collection development, the acquisition and cataloguing of information resources and library systems; she is also involved in the library’s educational activities. Liz has a clinical faculty appointment in the School of Nursing.

"We thank Liz for taking on the position of interim director and we are pleased that the library will be in good hands," said Denburg.

A search committee for the new library director will be appointed in the near future, with the expectation that the position will be filled by the summer of 2008.
