Downtown McMaster clinic in discussion

Published: March 20, 2007

McMaster University is exploring opportunities for a family medicine clinic in downtown Hamilton. The issue arose during city council discussions yesterday (March 19th) regarding the redevelopment of the city hall site at the corner of Main and Bay streets.

At this time options are being discussed and there are neither firm plans nor a memorandum of agreement, said Dr. David Price, chair of family medicine for the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

The school currently has two clinical teaching units, where medical residents and students are taught alongside clinical faculty members who see patients. The downtown location would be a centre for training of family medicine residents and students of medicine and other health professions, including nurse practitioners.

Plans for a family practice clinic for downtown Burlington are also in discussion.
