Clinical Faculty Members

As a full time faculty member and an academic physician, you have been dually recruited to McMaster University and one of our clinical partners.

Licensing

Prior to your arrival at McMaster, you will need to ensure that you are licensed or eligible for licensing by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The registration process can take up to six months to complete dependant on completeness of the original submission, CPSO meeting dates and any any requests for further documentation/clarification.

Hospital Appointment

McMaster University has affiliations with both Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare. These agreements establish a joint appointment process that supports a commitment to the pursuit of excellence in clinical service, education and research.

A recommendation for a hospital appointment will be made by the Clinical Chief of the hospital. The Credentials Office for Hamilton Health Sciences / St. Joseph’s Hospital will send you instructions for "Application for Appointment to the Medical, Dental, Midwifery or Special Profession Staff" and are available to assist you in preparing your application.

The hospital appointment cycle can take approximately 60 – 90 days to complete. Once your hospital appointment is approved you will receive notification outlining the items to be completed prior to your hospital start date.


Regional Medical Associates (RMA)

All billings related to your clinical activiteis are managed through Regional Medical Associates (RMA).  You should schedule a sign-in appointment with a Billing Advisor several weeks prior to your confirmed start date. The Billing Advisor will discuss the various requirements and benefits of RMA membership.

Clinical Faculty Association

As a Clinical Faculty member, you are eligible for membership in the McMaster University Clinical Faculty Association

The McMaster University Clinical Faculty Association is not a Union. It does not seek to take an adversarial position with academic departments, the Faculty of Health Sciences or the University. Rather, it works with administration to ensure fair treatment of clinical faculty to achieve working conditions that are conducive to individual productivity and to secure fair remuneration and benefits for faculty positions.
