Genechip Exon Arrays provide exon-level expression profiling that combines genome-wide exon-level expression data with sequence information to reveal the phenotypic splicing patterns resulting from genetic variations. Multiple probes per exon enable "exon-level" analysis allows one to distinguish between different isoforms of a gene. This exon-level analysis on a whole-genome scale permits detection of specific alterations in exon usage that may play a role in disease mechanism and etiology. The second level is "gene-level" expression analysis, in which multiple probes on different exons are summarized into an expression value of all transcripts from the same gene.
Exon arrays provide the most comprehensive coverage of the genome, including empirically supported and predicted transcribed sequences, enabling the discovery of previously unidentified novel events.

The Exon 1.0 ST assay protocol uses 1-2 ug total RNA with concentration of no less than 0.31 ug/ul suspended in RNase-free water. For the Gene 1.0 ST arrays100-300 ng total RNA is used with concentration in the range 0.1-0.3 ug/ul suspended in RNase-free water.
