Classmates in their white coats at the 2013 White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat Ceremony

The ceremony for the Class of 2021 will be held October 10, 2018.

In 2003 the first White Coat Ceremony was held. Early in October each year, MD students are invited, along with their families, to an evening at which they are presented with their first white coat. This has become a Mac tradition and one which we have found formalizes the McMaster experience in a meaningful way.

The White Coat Ceremony is hosted by the dean of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Dr. Paul O'Byrne.

McMaster MD Alumni — be part of the experience

In 2012 McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences launched a new annual tradition to welcome new medical students to the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. Each year we ask our MD alumni to pen a short personal note to a first year medical student. These notes are given to the students with their new white coat note at the White Coat Ceremony and provide a link between past and present in a meaningful way.

We are currently seeking MD alumni to write notes to the Class of 2018. If you would like to write a new to a first year McMaster MD student you can do so either by downloading the blank note paper from this site or contact our office to receive a blank note paper along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

If you would like to write a note for a student in next year's Class of 2019 please contact us.

We hope you'll be able to help.
