Staff Subcommittees

There are a variety of staff subcommittees in the Department of Pediatrics that staff are involved in to help achieve specific goals for the Department of Pediatrics. Below is a list of these subcommittees and their members.

Career Growth & Recognition Mandy Van Goch (Chair), Franca Mazur & Zoi Snyder

The committee is actively seeking new members to help develop a core competency program for the Admin Staff. This program would include courses offered by Continuing Education and is still in the infancy stage which is a great time for new members to join. Please contact Mandy VanGoch (mvango@mcmaster.ca) if you are interested in this endeavour.

Communications Marlice Simon (Chair), Karen Burns, Jane Goad, Maureen Jakab, Kay Johnson, Colleen Lowe, Kaye Mitton

Currently on hold as there are no major projects that they are working on. The Committee is waiting for the outcome of the recent communication survey that was sent to the department.

Education Giulia Spadafora (Chair), The education tracking sheet for the merit system is completed; it will be sent to all Admin Assistants for vetting, review and feedback.  Once this process is completed, the tracking sheet will be presented to faculty at a departmental meeting.
Health & Safety Sarah Mitchell (Chair), Joanne Robinson, Walk about in most areas have been completed.  A need was identified for some safety boards, safety tape, flashlights and first aid kits.  The committee will try to obtain the above items for all areas.  They also identified that it would be beneficial to have all safety components including binders in one area, so they are working on developing a safety centre in each office.  The committee will continue over the summer to finish any walk about in admin areas, as well as laboratory space in the department.  Work orders will be processed by Joanne when concerns identified.
Orientation & Mentorship Vanessa Pauli-Descamps (Chair), Mandy Van Goch, Kim Harris & Kristyn Turner (on mat leave until July 2012) The committee is currently focusing on developing a formal Mentorship Program for new support staff in the Department. The committee has developed an info session for those who may be interested in becoming mentors. Elise is currently working on a general Orientation for all new staff members. Once the general Orientation is finalized the committee will continue working on the support staff focused orientation.

Social Katherine Floresco (Chair), Andrea Brydges, Carmela Jeffrey, Colleen Lowe, Kaye Mitton This subcommittee plans and executes a variety of special events throughout the year for both staff and faculty. Click here for information about our next event!
Standard Operating Procedures Elise Gallant (Interim Chair), Kim Harris, Zoi Snyder This subcommittee has taken a break for the summer and will reconvene in September to discuss the next steps in developing SOP's for tasks performed by the admin staff.

 

The Chair of each of the above subcommittees is part of the Administrative Chair's Committee, which meets regularly to keep each other updated on the activities of the various subcommittees.
