April Kam

Dr April Kam McMaster PediatricsDr. April Kam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and a McMaster medical school graduate. She joined the division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in 2010 after completing her pediatrics residency and an academic pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.  Dr. Kam completed her Masters of Science in Public Health (Health Promotion stream) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK. 

She is a former member of the Board of Directors for Physicians for Global Survival. During her training, she pursued her passion for global health and has worked in several countries including Zimbabwe, Mexico, Eritrea, Rwanda, Nicaragua and Guyana.  She has been active in the Masters of Science in Global Health program and sits on the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board.  Dr. Kam is the McMaster Evaluations Portfolio Lead for the Pediatric Postgraduate Education Committee. She is the founding chair and Research Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Research Oversight Committee (PEMROC).  In 2014, she was recruited to become an CAEP Education Champion as part of the CAEP Academic Section Education Working Group’s efforts to facilitate the dissemination of expertise in education across Canada.

Besides Pediatric Emergency Medicine topics, her interests also include clinical ethics, child advocacy, medical education and patient safety.
