Dr. James Leung joined the Department of Pediatrics as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine in January 2015.
Dr. Leung graduated from medical school at the University of Calgary in 2009 and completed his core Pediatric Residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in 2012. He returned to his hometown to complete his Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the University of Calgary in 2014.
During his training, Dr. Leung examined adverse drug events associated with common asthma medications and ondansetron use in children with type 1 diabetes and vomiting. These experiences developed into an interest in patient advocacy, safety and quality improvement, a field for which he is currently pursuing advanced education. Dr. Leung is particularly interested in improving care amongst children with complex medical conditions and children with mental health concerns, as well as adapting technologies to improve healthcare delivery.
In addition to his academic interests, Dr. Leung is dedicated to medical education and simulation. During his fellowship, he obtained certification as a simulation facilitator through the Alberta Children’s Hospital KidSIM program, and has actively participated in rural outreach simulation programs.
