Critical Care Research

What you need to know

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences is actively involved in numerous research studies. We participate in many investigator-initiated studies with researchers within and beyond the Department, and are members of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group. The goals of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) are to balance high clinical and resource demands with academic and educational requirements, and to do so in a way that maintains optimal patient care and a collaborative working environment.

When considering proposed research projects involving the PICU clinical care areas, patients, guardians, and/or healthcare providers, it is essential for research to take the form of collaborative research partnerships to support our academic and clinical goals. For more information about conducting research in the PICU, please refer to the Policy for conducting Research in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Prior to conducting research in the PICU, please complete the PICU Research Impact form, prior to submitting your REB application.

Below is a list of important resources for those looking to conduct research in the PICU.
