Division of Cardiology

About Cardiology

Pediatric Cardiology is a growing interdisciplinary team, currently comprised of four academic pediatric cardiologists, one nurse practitioner, two RN's, three echocardiogram technicians, two business clerks and three administrative assistants.

Our division provides outstanding care for babies, children, and adolescents with simple or complex congenital disease pre and post-operatively, as well as services for children with acquired heart disease (e.g., Kawasaki Disease, cardiomyopathies). We also provide consults and follow-ups for children with suspected heart conditions including murmurs, palpitations, chest pain, dizziness and fainting.  In addition to the out-patient clinic our cardiologists also offer in-patient care and consultations to the NICU, PICU, ER, wards, and to other subspecialties within McMaster Children's Hospital.

Our services include a full range of specialized non-invasive pediatric cardiac procedures, including echocardiograms (PW- and CW-Doppler as well as Color and Tissue Doppler), electrocardiograms, exercise tests, holters, event monitoring, and fetal echocardiograms in collaboration with the Maternal Fetal Medicine Group in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at McMaster University.

We collaborate closely with the Hospital of Sick Children in Toronto to provide optimal care for our patients that require diagnostic or interventional catheterization procedures or cardiac surgeries.

Embedded in our support and educational services for patients and families, we also have a well organized transition plan for patients moving to the Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) clinic.

All cardiologists on our team are involved in clinical and basic research projects related to congenital heart defects, such as fetal cardiac interventions, cardiac imaging and functional analysis, and physiology and function of pre- and postnatal life.
