After completing his residency in Pediatrics in London, Ontario in 1998, Dr. Baird worked as a general consulting pediatrician and was founding program director of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's pediatric residency program. He joined the McMaster Department of Pediatrics in 2009 and was appointed Associate Professor in 2011. He is currently serving as a staff physician and Medical Lead for the Child Advocacy and Assessment Program and as an attending physician in the pediatric emergency department. He also works with McMaster Children's Hospital diabetes program and exercise medicine clinic, and serves as chair of the hospital's Mortality Review Committee. Dr. Baird is currently a member of the provincial Pediatric Death Review Committee of the Office of the Chief Coroner and is director of the Pediatric Short Answer Examination committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
