Dr. Charles Malcolmson joined the Department of Pediatrics in 1974 as an Associate Professor, and since then, has held a series of positions that have shaped pediatric care throughout the community. Among them, he co-founded the Pediatric Critical Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital and recently played a vital role in the creation of the new pediatric-only emergency unit.
He has visited countries as diverse as Switzerland and Kuwait to help enrich the abilities of a range of professionals involved in pediatric care. He has tutored students and helped develop a pediatric residency program in Guyana, and has travelled to Moose Factory, Ontario, as a pediatric consultant. He has also served as an examiner and host of the pediatric exams for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and taken on the role of physician examiner for the Medical Council of Canada.
Dr. Malcolmson is now Associate Professor Emeritus and continues to mentor, teach, and advise faculty and students throughout the department.
