Cathy Humphreys is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and the inaugural Director of the Master's of Science in Child Life and Pediatric Psychosocial Care Program in the Faculty of Health Sciences. This continues to be the first master's degree program within the Department of Pediatrics, and is the first of its kind in Canada. Cathy also teaches full-time in this program. Prior to this, Cathy held several different leadership roles (Director, Co-Director, Curriculum Coordinator, Internship Coordinator) between 2001-2016 in the Child Life Studies post-baccalaureate diploma program at McMaster University.
Cathy completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. She also obtained her diploma in Child Life Studies, and Master's of Health Science Education at McMaster University. She has also completed additional graduate studies in End of Life Care through George Washington University.
Cathy has practiced as a certified child life specialist at McMaster Children's hospital in a number of clinical areas with the most years of service in inpatient general pediatrics, and outpatient pediatric hematology/oncology. She also served as the Child Life Professional Practice Leader between 200https://cannabisresearch.mcmaster.ca/0-2002.
Cathy is Past-President of the Canadian Association of Child Life Leaders, past board member of the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP), and founding member of the Canadian Child Life Institute. She has held a number of committee and task force leadership roles within the ACLP, currently serving as Co-Chair of the Graduate Program Accreditation Task Force.
