Spring Results - Student Interviews

Three students participated in in-depth interviews about their experience. The major themes that arose from the interviews were as follows:

A) The value of home care/team care:

-in illustrating determinants of health
-in helping students realize the importance of communication/collaborative skills
-in illustrating the personal support provide to the patient
-in increasing student awareness of the services available for patients
-for continuity of care
-in changing their practice

B) Challenges of home care
        -discomfort of visiting someone’s home
        -concern over safety of health professionals working in the home

C) Scopes of Practice
        -Limitations of own scope of practice
        -Learning about scope of practice

D) Barriers to Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC)
      -IPC not done face to face
      -Allied health professionals looked down by physicians
      -Curriculum barriers
      -Attitudes of students towards Interprofessional Education (IPE) experiences
