OBITUARY

2014 - Hallie Groves ... photo of Dr Groves
passed away quietly in her sleep at home in Ancaster, Ontario on April 30th, 2014. Hallie was the wife of department Emeritus Professor, David Groves. Hallie was born on July 31, 1943 in Penticton BC. After enrolling in UBC, she was trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at BCIT, working in the laboratories of St. Paul and the Vancouver General, in research laboratories at UBC, and as a teacher at BCIT. She completed her BSc at UBC. After working as a technologist in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Health Sciences Center, she obtained her MSc and PhD in Biomedical Sciences at McMaster, researching animal models of cardiovascular disease. She retired in 2007 as Associate Professor after helping many local physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nurses gain a better functional understanding of anatomy, wellness and disease. She was a strong believer in the McMaster model of active learning. In retirement she led an active life involving sailing, gardening, woodworking, embroidery and her grandchildren. In keeping with her love of teaching and anatomy, it was Hallie's wish that she continue to help students through bequeathal of her body to a University education program.
