Palliative Care Interest Group
In the fall of 2006, the Division helped initiate a Palliative Care Interest Group with the aim to increase exposure to Palliative Care, and end of life issues. The group at this time is comprised of medical students who meet approximately once a month. The students choose topics of interest to discuss and review. We started off the year with a viewing of the movie ‘Wit’ as a fundraiser for World Hospice Day and our local Bob Kemp Hospice. Subsequent sessions involved reviewing articles and topics such as paediatric palliative care and talks by palliative care staff. The group has started a reading and resource list as a work in progress. In the near future we hope to examine views and rituals around death in different religions, and tour a local hospice environment. For the next academic year we hope to become an interprofessional group and expand exposure to scheduled events to other faculties. As awareness around palliative care grows, we hope to build a sustainable forum for students in all health disciplines to explore palliative care beyond the scope of their curriculums.
Please refer to our page on the Division website for up-to-date information on events. Or contact me via e-mail if you have any other questions.
