Director's Welcome
The McMaster Immunology Research Centre (formerly the Centre for Gene Therapeutics) was established in 1999 based on the seminal research of our founders, Frank Graham and Jack Gauldie. While our Centre was organized around the recombinant adenovirus platform, our scientists currently employ a wide range of recombinant viral and non-viral methods of gene transfer for their research. Our group benefits from the Fitzhenry Vector Facility which can produce GMP grade viruses for human study. Most recently, our vector core has been used to produce a recombinant adenovirus that expresses the M. tuberculosis antigen, Ag85A. The AdAg85A vector is a candidate TB vaccines and is currently being tested in healthy volunteers. We are all excited by the immunological responses produced by this vector. We also benefit by the availability of a GLP immune monitoring lab that is used to support our human clinical trials.
Our research extends well-beyond the basic aspects of gene therapeutics to the field of translational immunology. Scientists within our group are conducting cutting-edge research in Mucosal Immunology, Cancer Immunotherapy, and Infectious Diseases. I invite you to browse our website and view the individual faculty pages to learn more about our research program.
