Career Awards
Background
The Department of Medicine offers six Internal Career Awards to promote the work of young scientists and educators within the first five years of their initial appointment at any university. The Medicine Internal Career Awards, consisting of two research awards, are funded by the interest income on capital reserves. The four AFP Internal Career Awards, two in research and two in education, are funded through designated AFP monies. Two of the AFP awards are named for prominent past Department of Medicine members.
- The Moran Campbell Internal Career Research Award
- The W. Watson Buchanan AFP Clinician Educator Award.
The internal competition will award career (personal) funding for up to two individuals who are full-time faculty and up to four individuals who are AFP participants, either as part-time or full-time faculty. The awards provide for a maximum $30K per year for up to three years in support of the individual’s teaching or research career. The decision to award the funds is made at an impartial peer-review committee chaired by Dr. Hertzel Gerstein.
Application Process
Eligible applicants must provide:
- a two-page description of their proposed research or educational project
- an up-to-date CV
- three letters of support
It is anticipated that successful candidates will apply for both grants-in-aid, external peer-reviewed funding, and complete two or more first-authored papers within the three-year time frame.
