Education and Professional Standing

Dr. McInnes received her BSc and MSc in Physiology from the University of British Columbia. She completed her MD and Internal Medicine training at the University of British Columbia and Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Toronto. She then pursued an MSc in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University with a focus on clinical trial methodology. She is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University. She has received several honors including Medicine Internal Career Award (2011-2014) and a Certificate of Merit for Teaching Excellence (2016).

Clinical and Educational Activities

Dr. McInnes is an endocrinologist at the Hamilton Health Sciences. Her clinical interests are in diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome and adrenal disorders. She is involved in the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact.

Research Interests

Dr. McInnes’ main research interests are in weight loss and remission of type 2 diabetes in response to lifestyle, medical and surgical therapies. She is the Joint Principal Investigator for the Diabetes Remission Program at the Population Health Research Institute. Her research is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Diabetes Association and Industry.
