During his training, Dr. Bolli took a great interest in hypertension and therefore, took an appointment as Research Officer at the Welcome Research Institute of the University of Otago, New Zealand (Prof. Sir Horace Smirk, Prof. Olaf Simpson) with staff appointments at the Departments of Cardiology and Nephrology, lecturer, senior lecturer from 1972-1977. 1978: Staff, Department of Cardiology, University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland. 1986: Professor of Preventive Cardiology, Memorial University, St.John’s, Newfoundland. 1989: Staff, Section of Nephrology, Health Sciences Centre, University of Manitoba; director renal/hypertension laboratory. 2005: Ambulatory Internal Medicine Teaching Clinic, St. Catharines.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Bolli’s clinical interest is in the field of Internal Medicine especially hypertension, ischemic heart disease and dyslipidemia.

Research Interests

Dr. Bolli’s research interests are as follows: treatment and preventative aspects of hypertension (Dr. Bolli is a member of the Canadian Hypertension Education Program), hemodynamics of hypertension, renal blood circulation in hypertension and effects of treatment, the role of intracellular calcium concentration on increased vascular resistance in hypertension, role of platelet activation in hypertension and dyslipidemia and effects of respective treatments.

Funding

Dr. Bolli has received funding from the University of Otago (New Zealand), the Welcome Research Institute (New Zealand), the New Zealand Heart Foundation, the University of Basel, the Swiss National Research Foundation, the University of Manitoba, the Canadian Kidney Foundation and from several Pharmaceutical Companies.
