Richard Austin
Dr. Austin plans to pursue research into the causes of, and treatments for atherosclerosis: a hardening of the arteries that is often seen in patients living with kidney disease.

John Turnbull
A renowned researcher of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) disease, sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease. Dr. Turnbull has been active in raising the profile and need for support for ALS research and patient issues with governments at provincial and national levels.

Arnold L. Johnson Chair in Health Care Ethics
Lisa Schwartz
Dr. Schwartz, a founding member of the Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board (OCREB), has been involved in the development of an ethics and moral reasoning stream of professional competencies for the undergraduate medical education program and has created a website on ethics in health care.

AstraZeneca Chair in Respiratory Epidemiology
Malcolm Sears
Dr. Sears, research director of the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, is investigating respiratory diseases, in particular the reasons for the rapid increase in the number of people, especially children, who have asthma.

Beamish Family Chair in Peripheral Vascular Surgery
Jacques Tittley
Dr. Tittley’s research projects include medical fitness to drive and travel with aortic aneurismal disease, complex aortic reconstructions with profound hypothermic circulatory arrest, prognostic value of elevated troponin levels in the post operative vascular patient, and a cost analysis of blood salvage techniques in patients undergoing abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.

Buffett Taylor Chair in Breast Cancer Research
Mark Levine
Dr. Levine conducts independent research and clinical trials in breast cancer, evaluates the use of innovative methods to improve communication between physicians and women with breast cancer and research methods to improve the use of clinical practice guidelines in the care of women with breast cancer.

Mehran Anvari
Dr. Anvari has become renowned for his work in minimally invasive surgery, establishing the world's first telerobotic surgical service between health care institutions. His clinical research has focused on the use of laparoscopic techniques in the treatment of upper and lower gastrointestinal tract disorders.

Peter Szatmari
Dr. Szatmari is leading an international collaboration investigating the genetics of autism, and is conducting a longitudinal study of anxiety and mood disorders in adolescents with Asperger Syndrome and autism.

Dr. Ginsberg, the director of the Clinical Thromboembolism Group (CTG), is conducting research into the formation and treatment of blood clots and their effects. Harriet MacMillan
Dr. MacMillan is both a clinician and a scientist. As a member and founding director of the Child Advocacy and Assessment Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital, she is considered a Canadian leader in the field of child maltreatment and family violence, working closely with child protection agencies.
The chair is being supported by a gift from the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation with matching support from McMaster University in honour of David R. (Dan) Offord, Canada's most renowned child psychiatrist.

Steve Collins
Dr. Collins' research, which involves both basic and clinical science, addresses the pathogenesis of functional bowel disorders and specifically the role of infection, immune activation and inflammation in these chronic conditions. His other research interests include the role of commensal bacteria in digestive health and disease.

Dr. Weitz has contributed to the understanding of how anti-coagulant drugs interfere with the clotting mechanism and has been involved in clinical tests of both new and existing drugs to devise better means of treating clotting disorders, as well as the development of tests for better diagnosis of these problems.

Dr. Cunningham has been involved in the development and evaluation of services for children with a wide variety of behavioral and developmental problems. He has a special interest in large group models which increase the availability of services and maximize cost effectiveness, community-based programs which reduce the barriers limiting access to services, and processes which enable families to participate actively in the planning and evaluation of the services they receive.

Medard DeGroote Chair in Medicine
Akbar Panju
Dr. Panju conducts research on chest pain, neuropathic pain, cardiology, thrombosis and general internal medicine, with particular emphasis on evidence-based health care. He is also undertaking an assessment and evaluation of different models of in-hospital patient care from across Canada, work in collaboration with the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine to increase public awareness of preventative measures in cardiovascular disease, and pursue the understanding and knowledge available on the mechanisms and treatment of pain.

Moran Campbell Chair in Respiratory Medicine
Paul O’Byrne
Dr. O’Byrne's research interests include pathogenesis and treatment of asthma, with particular interest in the mechanisms involved in allergic asthma including cell recruitment and activation, the inflammatory and bronchoconstructor mediators released from the inflammatory cells, including eicosanoids and cytokines, the structural consequences of the persisting inflammation in asthma and the efficacy and mechanisms of action of anti-asthma drugs.

Dr. Zipursky’s research interests are in the early identification and treatment of schizophrenia and the study of schizophrenia using brain imaging technologies.

Dr. Parminder Raina directs an interdisciplinary research program aimed at investigating not only the aging musculoskeletal system to detect early decline, but also to examine how to support the participation and health of older adults through technological design, prevention and intervention in order to keep them socially, culturally and otherwise connected to their daily life worlds.

Paul Moayyedi
Dr. Moayyedi has been recognized internationally for his work in evaluating the management of dyspepsia, the potential for population Helicobacter pylori screening and treatment to prevent gastric cancer and has conducted one of the world's largest cross-sectional survey evaluating Irritable Bowel Syndrome in the community.
