James Mackillop, professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, has been recognized by the American Psychological Association with the Award for Distinguished Scientific Early Career Contributions to Psychology.

The award honors early career scientists for contributions in the first nine years post-PhD.

MacKillop, who is also the Peter Boris Chair in Addictions Research at McMaster, was recognized for distinguished contributions to the behavioural economic study of addiction. By using his behavioural economic advances in novel ways, he has made contributions to tobacco policy and expanded his behavioural economic perspective into both neuroimaging and genetics.
