McMaster hosts Quarantine Tent to teach about disease risk and vaccines

Published: June 29, 2015

The Quarantine Tent came to the Open Streets Hamilton festival on June 28, where McMaster University students from medicine, immunology, anthropology, health sciences and psychology played the part of sick patients from the pre-vaccine era.

The event allowed visitors to meet people transported from the past who have vaccine-preventable diseases like smallpox, diphtheria or polio, from an era before vaccines were available. The tent was sponsored by the School of Graduate Studies and the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research.
