The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) has named two researchers from McMaster's Department of Family Medicine to its list of the Top 20 Pioneers of Family Medicine Research in Canada.

Brian Hutchison, professor emeritus in the Departments of Family Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, was recognized for his use of simulated office patients as an innovative research methodology.

Janusz Kaczorowski, formerly an associate professor and research director with the Department of Family Medicine and now a professor at the University of Montreal, was recognized for his use of cities as the unit of randomization, specifically with the Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program (CHAP). He co-developed CHAP while he was at McMaster.

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of its section of researchers, the CFPC chose to honour the Top 20 Pioneers of Family Medicine Research in Canada for their respective contributions to advancing health care in Canada and around the world, and to recognize those health professionals who have dedicated their work to family medicine research.
