Education centre opened in Kitchener hospital

Published: May 22, 2015

A large 'ribbon' sign was cut to official open expanded medical education space for McMaster University at Grand River Hospital's Kitchener Waterloo Site on May 21.

The medical education centre is the result of a nearly $300,000 investment by the Waterloo Regional Campus of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Renovated space on the ninth floor of the King Street West hospital features sleep and study rooms for residents on long shifts at the hospital, as well as meeting and lounge space. The rooms will be open to undergraduate medical learners as well as residents completing specialized residencies in internal medicine, psychiatry and pediatrics. Grand River Hospital hosts about 100 McMaster medical students and residents in clinical placements each year.

Medical students, residents and staff of the school and the hospital attended the opening reception.
