McMaster Family Health Team receives Family Practice of the Year award
A small group, made up primarily of leadership, represents the McMaster Family Health Team as they accept the Family Practice of the Year award.

Faculty from McMaster University's Department of Family Medicine have picked up nine awards from the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP), including Regional Family Physician of the Year (Region 3) and Family Practice of the Year honours.

The awards were handed out at the OCFP's annual general meeting recently.

In making the announcement, Jonathan Kerr, OCFP president said: "Our award-winning physicians represent excellence in clinical care, teaching and commitment to their patients and communities. They show the strength of family medicine and the multitude of ways family doctors contribute to providing comprehensive and coordinated care across our province."

David Price, chair of the Department of Family Medicine, said the individual winners "are all dedicated and selfless physicians and educators, putting their patients' and learners' needs first," and that everyone in the Department is proud of them for this "well-deserved recognition" from the OCFP.

The McMaster Family Health Team (MFHT) is an academic family health team made up of 32 family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered practical nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, system navigators, occupational therapists, a lactation consultant, a physician assistant, a psychologist and a chiropodist. The MFHT has over 30,000 patients spread over two large clinics.

"Our McMaster Family Health Team is a remarkable group of health care professionals and support staff," said Price. "They truly work as a team, consistently learning from and supporting each other to ensure the best possible care for their patients, while simultaneously providing a world-class education for students and family medicine residents."
