New director named for Health Sciences Library

Jennifer McKinnell has been named director of the Health Sciences Library.

Health sciences librarian Jennifer McKinnell has been named director of the Health Sciences Library. 

McKinnell joined McMaster's Health Sciences Library in 2000 as an education liaison librarian. Since that time, she has had a variety of positions, most recently as head of public services and coordinator of undergraduate liaison support. She takes on the new position Monday, May 27.

Over the years, McKinnell has made a number of major contributions to the library and the Faculty, including the design and creation of a course to enhance the information literacy skills of students and the ongoing development of an Academic Health Sciences Library Network.  She was part of a team of instructors that won the President's Award for Excellence in Course and Resources Design in 2005. 

McKinnell has been a member of several internal committees, including the Forward with Integrity — Student Experience Task Force, University Libraries Services Managers Committee and the Provost's Task Force on Evaluation, Accountability and Measurement.

She is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (BA Honours, 1993) and York University (MA, 1996). She completed her Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Western Ontario (1998).

A well-known member of her profession, McKinnell participates in a number of professional associations and is currently a board member and continuing education director for the Canadian Health Libraries Association.  Her research interests include information literacy and library service design and evaluation.

She takes over this role from Liz Bayley who has completed a five-year term as director and will be retiring.
