A luncheon was held to celebrate the 95th birthday of Dr. Barb Mueller, a founder of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, its first chair of surgery from 1968 to 1972 and a professor emeritus since 1983.

His vision was influential in the development of the McMaster philosophy of medical education. His outstanding skills as a surgeon and dedication to teaching in a kind, thorough manner, earned him many academic and professional honours during a 45-year career. Those at McMaster include an honorary degree and membership in the Faculty's Community of Distinction.

The celebration was held, fittingly, in the C. Barber Mueller History of Health and Medicine Room in the Health Sciences Library, named in tribute to his long-term and generous support of the library.

Dr. Mueller's contributions to knowledge, education and clinical care have created a legacy at McMaster and helped set the standards of modern surgery.
