New director for health research services at Faculty

Greg Weiler, a research administrator with experience in large and small, public and private sector organizations, begins as director, health research services of the Faculty of Health Sciences, on Jan. 23, 2012.

The announcement was made by Steve Collins, associate dean, research for the Faculty.

Weiler, MBA, has served most of the past seven years as the dean of applied research, innovation and university partnerships at Fanshawe College in London, ON, where his primary focus was to provide research services and to encourage and support the development of applied research and scholarly activity.

His career in research services began when he joined University Hospital in London, Ontario in 1987 to help set up and manage the Multi Organ Transplant Unit operations and external relationships.  Later, as a vice-president, he dealt with different portfolios including patient services, CIO, and business development.  Weiler developed the hospital’s intellectual property policies and practices, obtained a number of patents for its inventors, and successfully licensed several technologies.

Weiler also spent six years in research administration at the University of Western Ontario, including as director, research development.
