McMaster University professor Sonia Anand has been named one of the Top 100 women of 2010 by the Women’s Executive Network for accomplishments in research and medicine.

The Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards recognize the country's highest achieving female leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Anand received her award in the trailblazers and trendsetters category.

"I am honoured and humbled to receive this recognition," said the professor of medicine, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. "I know of many, many women who are equally deserving; women who are hardworking, team players, and who enhance their workplace on a daily basis. I appreciate being nominated for this award by McMaster University and I hope I can continue to contribute in a meaningful way."

A three-time McMaster alumna, Anand is a vascular medicine specialist and director of the McMaster Population Genomics Program. She holds two endowed research chairs:

Her research focuses on understanding the environmental and genetic causes of cardiovascular risk factors among women, the South Asian community, First Nations people and other ethic groups. Her research interests also include clinical epidemiology, population health and population genetics.
