Geoff Norman awarded honorary degree
A McMaster University professor, who has spent his career working how to better teach health care professionals, has received an honorary degree in tribute to his work.
Geoff Norman is a professor of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the director of the Program for Education Research and Development. He now also holds an honorary doctorate from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands for his major contributions to problem based learning (PBL).
The educational psychologist is the author of more than 240 journal articles which have been cited more than 5,000 times. "This means every two months (during his career) Professor Norman came to the solution of a scientific puzzle," said Professor Henk T. van der Molen, professor of psychology, in paying tribute to Norman.
Norman has won numerous national and international awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Medical Council of Canada and, more recently, the Karolinska Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Medical Education. He is one of only three individuals worldwide to be awarded the Karolinska Prize.
