Dr. Mark Levine, professor and chair of the Department of Oncology in the Michael G. De Groote School of Medicine, is pleased to announce the launch of the Department of Oncology website.

In recognition of cancer in our community and the existing strengths at McMaster in cancer research and education, the Department of Oncology was initiated by the University in 2006. Tremendous opportunities exist to address a range of important questions across a broad spectrum of cancer research from designing molecular targeted therapies, to employing new imaging technologies to detect cancers early, to designing innovative models of care delivery, to addressing the ethical challenges in complex policy and decision making associated with resource allocation. In addition to developing research programs and collaborations to address these challenges, the Department of Oncology provides educational opportunities in undergraduate and postgraduate education as well as contributing to the overall development of medical education at McMaster through key leadership roles held by its members. The Department of Oncology is committed to fostering a dynamic and collaborative environment that will attract the best clinicians and researchers, provide training opportunities for the next generation of young investigators and clinicians, and to make a difference to cancer patients and their families both locally and around the world.

The administrative offices of the Department are situated in the Juravinski Cancer Centre of Hamilton Health Sciences. While many department members are located at the JCC, there are members at all McMaster and teaching hospital sites in the city.

The site, //fhs.mcmaster.ca/oncology/ , highlights the formal departmental Divisions of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Malignant Hematology, postgraduate training programs, research and will introduce you to the department’s faculty and staff.
