Health care from an aboriginal perspective will be the focus of an Interprofessional Day in Aboriginal Health being held Wednesday Feb. 27 at the Six Nations Polytecnic Institute of the Grand River Territory Ohsweken, Ontario.

The day is being organized by the Aboriginal Students Health Sciences Office for all students with the goal of improving cultural competence in working with Aboriginal Peoples.

Aboriginal elders, traditional healers and professionals from the Aboriginal medical community will provide the core of the teaching, and faculty from the university will support the learning within a problem-based context.

Tours of Six Nations, discussions and PBL breakouts will be held, with specific sessions on diabetes, midwifery, rehabilitation and community support, as well as traditional approaches to healing.
