Health Research Under the Microscope

Published: April 4 , 2007

High school students from across the province will be at McMaster University on Thursday to take part in an outreach program that will give them insight into health-related research careers.

More than 200 students are taking part in the day-long symposium entitled Health Research Under the Microscope.

The annual event is organized by Hamilton Health Sciences, in partnership with McMaster, St. Joseph’s Healthcare and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. With statistics indicating that a career shortage in health care is imminent, organizers have planned the event to introduce students in Grades 10 through 12 to science and health-focused career options.

Participants will be given hands-on experience in the field of science and technology through face-to-face interactions with research mentors from a wide range of professional careers, and hear first-hand accounts of student and career experience in these fields.

"A career in the healthcare industry is not only extremely rewarding, it’s a way to give, and to care for our community’s future," said Murray Martin, Hamilton Health Sciences President and CEO.

Health Research Under the Microscope takes place at the CIBC Hall in the McMaster University Student Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
