Dr. Sonia Anand has been named a member of the board of Echo, the new women's health agency which has been established by the Ontario government to raise awareness and work toward solutions on women's health issues.

Echo will build on the work of the former Women’s Health Council as a foundation for start-up of the new agency. Echo will assume new responsibilities and bring together health system, community, research and policy stakeholders.

Anand is an associate professor of medicine and the May Cohen / Eli Lilly Chair in Women’s Health for the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. Her research focus includes study of sex/gender determinants of cardiovascular disease

Anand says the creation of ECHO by the provincial government represents an exciting opportunity for her and the other Board members to advise the Minister of Health on the key social and biological determinants of women's health in Ontario.

"I am pleased to participate in decisions regarding research funding of women's health projects in the province."

Echo is chaired by Caroline Andrew, who has been a professor at the University of Ottawa.
