I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Catherine Tompkins as associate dean of the School of Nursing, for the period July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2014.

Catherine Tompkins, is an associate professor in the School of Nursing and will complete her first term as associate dean, Health Sciences (Nursing), in June, 2009. 

Dr. Tompkins joined the University in 1980 as a lecturer in the School of Nursing.  She holds a BScN from the University of Western Ontario, a MEd from the University of Toronto and a PhD from the University of California, San Francisco.  Prior to her appointment as associate dean, she held a number of administrative roles within the School including:  coordinator of Phase 1 of the McMaster-Aga Khan Project, assisting in the development of the Aga Khan School of Nursing in Karachi, Pakistan; and chair and assistant dean of Undergraduate Nursing Education. At the university level, Dr. Tompkins has been a member of the University Senate; the Committee on Student Affairs; and the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee.

Dr. Tompkins areas of academic interest are philosophy of science, feminist and critical science, and women living with disabilities and chronic illness.
