Jujy 2, 2010

From: John G. Kelton, MD, Dean and Vice-President, Faculty of Health Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Seanne Wilkins as Associate Dean (Acting), School of Rehabilitation Sciences effective July 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010.

Seanne Wilkins is an associate professor completing her term as the Assistant Dean of the Rehabilitation Science Graduate Program (2005-2010) in the School of Rehabilitation Science.  An occupational therapist with graduate education in community health and social gerontology (MSc 1990 & PhD 1998, University of Toronto), Seanne joined McMaster University in 1995 after holding a variety of clinical and administrative positions in her discipline. During Seanne’s term as Assistant Dean, the Rehabilitation Science Graduate Program has grown substantially with the addition of the PhD program and a growing interest in online learning with the MSc course based program in collaboration with the University of British Columbia. This fall, the Master’s in Health Management, a partnership between the SRS and the DeGroote School of Business, will enrol its first cohort of students.

Seanne’s research interests focus on the relationships between aging, chronic illness, disability and women's health. She has expertise in the use of qualitative methodology to examine community health issues for older adults with chronic disease and/or disability. Recent research funded by CIHR and other agencies includes  aging, chronic illness and self-concept in a group of older women with osteoporosis; evaluation of home care versus hospital care in people with post-acute stroke; community participation among women living with HIV/AIDS; and social participation among women and men aging with HIV.
