Parveen Wasi

Parveen Wasi, MD, FRCPC

June 5, 2016

From: Dr. Alan Neville, Associate Dean, Health Professional Education

I would like to extend congratulations to Dr. Parveen Wasi on her appointment as the assistant dean, Postgraduate Medical Education Program, effective July 1.

A professor of hematology, Dr. Wasi has been a faculty member in the Department of Medicine since 1995 and a staff hematologist at Hamilton Health Sciences since 1994. She served as program director of internal medicine from 2000 to 2011, and during that time the program expanded from 36 residents to more than 80.

Under her lead, internal medicine received the Program of the Year Award from the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO) and had two successful accreditations, one in which the program was called a "gold standard" and model program.

Dr. Wasi is a graduate of Memorial University's medical program ('87). Her internal medicine residency was at Memorial and McMaster, followed by hematology at McMaster. She was a clinical scholar in the Division of Hematology from 1993 to 1995.

Since then, Dr. Wasi has become an active and prominent member of a number of organizations, and currently she is the chair of the Royal College Residency Accreditation Committee.

The main focus of her academic career has been postgraduate medical education, and specifically she has promoted scholarly and research activity within postgraduate education, as well as faculty development.

Please join me in welcoming Parveen to this senior academic administrative position.

I would also like to thank Dr. Mark Walton, who has served well as the program's assistant dean since 2004.
