History of Health Care in Hamilton

Welcome to the History of Health Care in Hamilton Gallery!

The Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University presents the development of medicine and health care from its first settlement to the present day in the Hamilton region.

Both pictures and text show the highlights of the development as one of Canada's most comprehensive health care systems, along with an innovative education and cutting-edge research enterprise.

The information found here is presented as a permanent gallery in McMaster University's Health Sciences Centre at 1200 Main Street West, Hamilton, Ontario. It is located along the west hallway on the second floor of the building, between red and purple sections (which you'll understand if you are in the building).

The focus will be on the development of hospitals in the city, along with some of the remarkable individual health care professionals who created a culture for medical innovation.
