Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner M.Sc. Degree
BScN prepared applicants who wish a Master’s (course based) degree leading to a PHCNP
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (60 units taken at a university) with a minimum of a B+ average over the final 60 units from an undergraduate nursing program, or its equivalent. Applicants who are graduates of a baccalaureate nursing degree program for registered nurses and who have between 50 and 59 units of university study will be considered on a case-by-case basis. These 60 units will not include advanced credit for college courses.
- Two years of full time nursing practice within the past five years (3640 hours).
- Two academic and two clinical references.
- Personal essay responding to four questions related to suitability for the PHCNP program (4 pages max double-spaced)
Candidate preference will be given to Ontario residents; work experience that has been continuous; and current experience in any setting which demonstrates critical thinking, potential to work with clients in a collaborative, holistic, family-centred practice, or advancement of evidence-based practice.

Requirements for Degree Completion
Each student will have an Advisor assigned by the Coordinator. The Advisor will be a member of graduate faculty in Nursing, assigned to advise on course requirements. Once the courses have been completed successfully, students are eligible to write their RN (Extended Class) exams.

Completion Time:
Students may be full-time or part-time. If registered full-time, they will take the required graduate courses, scholarly paper and remaining six NP courses within 24 months of study and pay full-time fees. Those who opt for part-time study will be required to pay full-time fees for the first year of their part-time study to conform with graduate school policies concerning part-time study and pay part-time fees for years 2 and 3.
