Health Sciences Graduate Studies

Welcome to the Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Studies website. The Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University offers eight distinct research-oriented graduate programs each leading to a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree.

For those interested in a combined MD/PhD degree, areas of study are currently available in the graduate programs of Medical Sciences, Biochemistry, Health Research Methodology, Biomedical Engineering, and Neuroscience.

Two professional course-based programs are also offered at the Master's level. They are:

Graduate diploma programs are also available in Advanced Neonatal Nursing, and Water Without Borders.

Seven collaborative graduate programs are offered in conjunction with Health Sciences and other Faculties:


*Prospective students are advised that offers of admission to a new program may be made only after the university’s own quality assurance processes have been completed and the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance has approved the program.

Writing a CIHR-Style Grant

Graduate students in the health sciences are frequently required to write CIHR-Style Grants. Dr. Beattie has experience reviewing graduate student scholarship applications to CIHR. In this presentation, she has shared some of her experiences and ideas that may help you to write a successful application.
